It’s already November, and like all adults, I wish time would just sssssllllllllooooowwwww down! I missed the pumpkin patch this year, (no time) I didn’t have too many trick or treaters, and every day is too short, for all the people I want to talk to (no time), sit and listen to ( no time), or the hobbies I seem to never find time for anymore. Now I’m stressing over how this week, I am going to get all my Christmas stuff up in my classroom, by next week, and I haven’t even planned Thanksgiving dinner. UUUUUGGGGGHHHH! I miss being young I guess, and I miss having little ones to create a celebration for, I also miss having time, time to laugh, time for Thanksgiving, and time to just be.

What has happened to the Holidays? What happened to traditions, like Thanksgiving and then Christmas? I guess I just miss the good old days when there were at least a few weeks to plan for Thanksgiving before Christmas reared its ugly head. Does anyone else feel this way, or am I losing it?

Thanksgiving is just that, a time to be thankful, and grateful for all the people and things in our lives. It’s the time we get together with the goofy uncles and aunts, sisters and brothers and all their wild, unruly, children to eat a huge dinner, watch football, play games, take pictures, and then eat pie, smothered in whipped cream. It’s a time of abundance in both food and family. It’s a time of winter, with cozy fires, hot chocolate with marshmallows, and cold quiet nights. It’s also the end of daylight savings time, which is another story for another time. But ………it seems to me that Thanksgiving has lost a lot of its Thanks, for greedy black Friday sales that start on Thursday, I mean call it what it is, a sale on Thanksgiving, not Black Friday! Families barely get together unless it’s to invade the lines and strategically hold places for a once in a lifetime deal on a TV set or whatever toy is enormously popular this year. It baffles my mind when I see on the news people fighting over stuff,  trampling others, and employees to get to stuff, and grabbing and hurting each other for what? STUFF. Thanksgiving is not about STUFF! It is a little about STUFFing though. LOL

This year I am taking it easy, I’m gonna cook up a storm and share it with family and friends, watch Lifetime Christmas movies, and Football. Talk with friends, Facetime loved ones that can’t make it to dinner. Laugh! Oh! I’m gonna laugh and play with my family, play games, eat pie smothered in whipped cream and take silly pictures with everyone. I’m looking forward to making memories. I’m gonna give Thanks for all I have in my life,  such as my family, my life, my community, and I am not going to spoil or ruin the fun, by standing in line for hours to get a 42 inch TV for fifty dollars; because that is not what this season is about. Thanksgiving is not about STUFF, sales and savings. It’s about Family, Friends, sharing food and laughter. And most of all, it’s about memories; because in the end, memories will last longer than that T.V. set.
