Hi! My name is Nikki Byer (probably written down as Nichole somewhere) and I am excited to finally be a part of the CHS family. I graduated from FHSU in 2007 with a BBA in Marketing but was disappointed by my options in the business world, so I went back to FHSU and graduated again in 2011 with a BA in Mathematics and a BS in Secondary Education. I will be graduating (again, from FHSU) in December with an MS in School Counseling and am concurrently working on a Graduate Certificate in Mathematics from UNCO. Word of advice to anyone who will listen: don’t underestimate yourself or second-guess the job, major, or general path your gut tells you to take – you might end up with 4 extra degrees, and degrees are expensive.

This will be my 7th year of teaching secondary math which has included everything from 7th Grade Math to Calculus with some spanish-speaking classes and Physics thrown in for fun. This year I will be teaching Geometry and the college-level math courses as well as being a Senior Sponsor, serving as Stuco Sponsor, and acting as a counseling intern for the first semester. There is a good chance I’ve volunteered for something else by the time this is published because I am often unable to say no to opportunities that allow me to have a more active role within the building, district, or community.

I live in Dodge City with my husband, Jason (a CHS alum), and my adorable (though definitely a “Terrible Two”) daughter, Emma. We currently do not have any fur-babies but may reconsider in the future when we buy a house with a fence in Cimarron. In the free time I used to have and hope to have again in the future, I enjoy reading, art, traveling, drinking chai lattes, eating pumpkin cookies and fried pickles (not at the same time), and spending time with my friends and family. I make a mean Hungarian Goulash and have mastered the art of Crock Pot cooking.
